Collaboration with Castle Rock to honour James Shipstone

Colin and myself joined forces with Castle Rocks head brewer Adrian Redgrove in the early hours of Wednesday 24 June to create ‘James Shipstone’, a real ale dedicated to the local pioneer & legend.

As you know Colin Brown of Belvoir Brewery worked at the original Shipstone’s Brewery and now brews both our beers at Belvoir Brewery, Castle Rock’s Adrian Redgrove, and myself (Richard Neale) all teamed up to brew a James Shipstone IPA, using ingredients based on an original recipe and adding a Castle Rock touch to deliver. It uses three different English Hops, Fuggle’s, Golding’s and a late addition of UK Cascade to give a fruity flavour.

We had a great day brewing with the team at Castle Rock and especially enjoyed the beers afterwards. For me working with two fantastic brewers to honour another was an amazing experience and great to have recognition from Castle Rock on the quality of our beer and we the project to protect and preserve brewing heritage.

The beer will be available in all Castle Rock Pubs from the 7th of July and will be flanked by our Original Bitter or Gold Star Blonde. Its also available for other pubs to purchase but is a one off batch so reserve your cask now.
